Do Men Cheat More Than Women?

Commonly quoted statistics suggest that more men are unfaithful to their partners than women. But how reliable are the figures and, if it takes two to tango, is it even mathematically possible?

On the face of it, the evidence does not look good for men.

Cheating statistics in the United States are increasing every year at an amazing rate. Long lasting marriages or relationships seem to be harder to achieve and even rare. About 17 percent of divorces are caused by infidelity! That's an amazing number, considering there are so many other reasons for divorce ...

About 70 percent of married men admitted to cheating on their wives! Another study found that 2/3 of women are not aware of their husband's affair.

What about the women? Most statistics found that about 50 to 60 percent of women admitted to having an affair. This one really shocked me. Are there really millions of cheating women in the states? It's hard to believe these statistics but it's true.

The UK's last major study of sexual behaviour - the 2000 National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal) - found that 15% of men had had "overlapping" relationships in the previous year, but only 9% of women.

More Statistics: Why Do Men Cheat?

Dissatisfaction or "general unhappiness" is NOT correlated with marriage infidelity.

Sexual dissatisfaction IS. The higher your husband is satisfied sexually, the lesser he is likely to cheat on you.

Lower self esteem and personal issues are likely to encourage infidelity.
